The John Alexander Project has been dedicated to the innovation of young journalists and the world of journalism for the last three years. The Project was created in 2008 to honor the late John Alexander, a talented young journalist who worked for ABC News Nightline and NPR before passing away of sudden heart failure while on assignment in China. The Project, along with the Above The Fray Fellowship, enables up and coming journalists to broaden their opportunities. Also supported by NPR, the fellowship is designed to help a promising journalist cover important but under-reported stories from a location abroad. The fellow will be selected based on a winning proposal to report from a region lacking significant mainstream media attention. The selected individual will spend three months filing on-air and online stories for NPR.
